Summer Camp Cook

The Camp Cook works to ensure three nutritious meals a day are prepared according to the daily schedule. The Camp Cook works with the Camp Directors and the Executive Director.

Length of Employment: Lunch July 6th, 2024 – Breakfast July 28th, 2024. Housing provided if needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Open kitchens by lunch on July 6th for staff along with an orientation of the cook’s expectations of camp staff and campers in the kitchen and dining hall.

  • Work with US Foods and Sysco to place food orders.

  • Establish a weekly menu approved by the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

  • Sort and store food according to NYS Health Department codes.

  • Prepare meals according to the camp schedule.

  • Track meals with Production Records for the SFSP.

  • Communicate with Camp Directors and the Executive Director about any additional needs for the kitchen, issues with food vendors, and performance of camp staff and camper behaviors/duties in the dining hall.

  • Close kitchen after breakfast on July 28th for the end of the camp season.

  • Campers will pack a to-go lunch on the last morning of camp.

  • At times, work together with the other camp cook to prepare a mixed camp meal/BBQ.

  • Does not bring any of the following onto camp property: alcohol/drugs, explicit materials, uninvited guests.

  • Completes all necessary paperwork and training for payroll and employment for a school in the Archdiocese of NY.

Days Off:

  • Once in a Sunday-Saturday weekly schedule, take a full day off (3 total throughout the summer).
    When one camps’ cook is taking a day off, the other camp will prepare food for both camps out of one kitchen. The Directors and Executive Director will transport the food between camps.

  • Once in a Sunday-Saturday weekly schedule, take a breakfast off (3 total throughout the summer).
    This will be planned with the Camp Directors and Executive Director so that they can ensure other camp staff are available to operate the kitchen for the morning. Cooks would leave a meal easy to prepare for the camp staff, likely without use of the appliances.

Salary: $5,000
