Male Retreat Chef

We hold two Spirit Camp retreats a year — the first is from Thursday, May 2, 2024 for the chef and staff (May 3-5, 2024 for people attending), and the second is Thursday, October 17, 2024 for the chef and staff. (October 18-20, 2024 for people attending). We serve the chef and staff meals Thursday lunch and dinner and Friday breakfast and lunch.

We are looking for a graduate with 3 years plus experience as a personal chef / cook with menu planning, familiar cooking recipes, great knife skills, understanding of sanitation, easygoing, hard-working, be comfortable with cooking meat.

For the May 2024 Spirit Camp I will be flying into Laguardia Thursday morning at 9am, renting a SUV, and making arrangements to pick up the chef.
There are other staff and men who need rides from NYC go up with us drive up from Riverdale.

We would all take the grocery list and assist with the shopping in Yonkers at Costco and Whole Foods, packing the SUV, driving to the venue, stopping for lunch and arriving at the venue in the afternoon, unpack, get settled in and stay overnight.

Going forward, if we are unable to have use of a vehicle on Thursday and shop locally, a drivers license is required because a cargo van may need be rented in Great Barrington in the event we need to do the shopping in The Berkshires rather than Yonkers before driving up to the venue.

Here is the general breakdown:

Preparation:

  • 2 hours menu planning with initial help of Executive Director - me - (remote on Zoom). Computer and Google Account required to access files.

Thursday:

  • 2.5 hours assisted grocery shopping (Thursday morning in Yonkers or Thursday afternoon in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

  • 3.5 hours unloading groceries and setting up kitchen.

Friday:

  • 5 hours on Friday (8am - 1pm) prepping, cooking, storing, labeling and cleaning.
    Coffee, tea, milk, rice milk, water, fruit, bread, peanut butter, jam always available.

  • 3 hours on Friday for dinner (8:30pm - 11:30pm)

  • Dinner is served after the Sweat Lodge at 9:30 - 10:30pm.

  • Coffee, tea, milk, rice milk, water, fruit, bread, peanut butter, jam always available.

Saturday:

  • 2.5 hours prep (6am - 7:30am), serving and cleanup (8-9am) with Saturday breakfast at 8am

  • 2 hours prep (10:30am - 11:30am), serving and cleanup (12-1pm) with Saturday lunch at 12pm

  • 2.5 hours prep (4pm-5:30pm), serving and cleanup (6-7pm) with Saturday dinner at 6pm.

Sunday:

  • 2.5 hours prep, (6am-7:30am), serving and cleanup (8-9am) with Sunday breakfast at 8am

  • 2.5 hours prep, (10:30am - 11:30am), serving and cleanup (12-1pm) with Sunday lunch at 12pm

  • 2 hours final cleanup (1pm - 3pm) on Sunday about 2pm
